School Accountability Report Cards

Welcome to the King Elementary School website.

Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School is a Title 1 School located on South 39 th Street in Richmond California . We have 370 ethnically diverse, wonderful students, and a staff of 50 professional and caring teachers and Teacher Aides. Our school was built originally as Pullman School in 1908. It changed to Martin Luther King School in 1968. The campus is composed of three separate buildings and is scheduled for a $15 million renewal, which will be completed by 2009. We have a regular education program for children in Kindergarten to grade 5, a state preschool, and 2 SH Autistic classes on campus.

Our students continue to do an outstanding job in mastering the California State Education Standards. We scored in the top five schools in the district in our STAR API gains over the last 5 years, (API 474 to API 707), and in 2005 we made the largest API gain (122 points) in the entire district.

In addition to our regular classroom teachers, our students are supported in their learning through an active Learning Center , Clinicians for Speech, Language, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, and Behavior Therapy.

Our parents are active in our daily school events and participate in the School Site Council, our Homework Help Nights, and they help us celebrate our diversity. We do this with assemblies for Martin Luther King Jr., our school patron, Black History month, Cesar Chavez, and Cinco de Mayo. We believe it takes a village to raise a child.
