A geographic information system (GIS) integrates hardware, software, geographic data, and personnel for capturing, managing, analyzing, and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. This data could be points (students, schools), lines (streets, railroads) and polygons (school properties, attendance areas).
GIS is used by WCCUSD in two ways: maps and analysis. GIS software generates our district maps, showing our attendance areas and the location of our schools. GIS also provides an efficient method for performing spatial analysis, assisting with the data driven decision-making process.
The GIS and Demographics Office is responsible for the following:
- Creating and maintaining district attendance area maps,
- Supporting enrollment projection reporting, and
- Analyzing geographic-related data.
