The Elections Office will start mailing ballots on May 10, 2004, to all voters already registered to vote.
If you are not registered to vote, and you register by April 15, the Elections Office will mail your ballot on May 14, 2004.
If you are not registered to vote, and you register between April 16 and May 24, the Elections Office will mail your ballot between May 24 and May 29. The closer you register to the May 24 deadline, the more likely your ballot will be sent out on May 29.
The last day to register to vote for the June 8 election is May 24, 2004.
The bottom line: If you are not now registered to vote, DO SO AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!
No postage is required to mail in the ballot.
You must sign the return envelope that is provided to you for sending your completed ballot, or your vote won't count.
Completed ballots must be received by 8 p.m. on June 8, 2004, either by mail or delivered in person.
A ballot MUST BE RECEIVED at the Elections Office by 8 p.m. on June 8, 2004 or it will not be counted. Even if the ballot is postmarked by June 8 but it is NOT RECEIVED in the Elections Office by June 8, it will not count.

Can I still register to vote in this election?
The deadline to register to vote in an election is 15 days before the election. In this case the date is May 24, 2004.
How can I register to vote?
Voter Registration Cards are available at many locations, including post offices, the Department of Motor Vehicles, libraries, city clerk's office, and the Contra Costa County Elections Office at 524 Main Street,Martinez. If you are going somewhere other than the Elections Office, you may want to call first and make sure they have forms on hand. Fill out Voter Registration Cards CLEARLY in dark ink and make sure you SIGN your name in order for your registration to be valid. If you live in an apartment, make sure you fill in the apartment number.
Why is it a mailed-ballot vote?
The State Elections Code 1500 (b) establishes June 8, 2004, as an established mail ballot election date.
When will I receive my ballot?
Ballots will be mailed on May 10, 2004 to all eligible voters registered by April 15, 2004.
What should I do if I don't receive a ballot, or if I lose my ballot?
If you don't receive your ballot by May 10, or if you lose your ballot, you should contact the Contra Costa County Elections Office at (925) 646-4166 at least seven days before the election. You can vote at the Elections Office, 524 Main Street,Martinez.
When can I return my ballot?
You can mail your ballot back right away. It must be received in the Elections Office by June 8, 2004, no later than 8 p.m.
Can I turn in my ballot in person?
Yes, you can turn in your ballot to the Contra Costa County Elections Office, 524 Main Street,Martinez, as late as 8 p.m. on June 8. The Saturday prior to the election, June 5, the Elections Office will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Can someone else turn it in for me?
In most cases, no. Only voters unable to return the ballot because of illness or other physical disability can designate certain relatives or a resident of their household to return the ballot. Contact the Elections Office for details.
How much is the postage?
There is no cost to you for the postage. It is prepaid.
